Cheer, Cheer for You Know Who

Some people are born bleeding the colors of a certain football team. I am not one of them. I was not a follower of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish until I was accepted as a student there. Once I became a student and was exposed to the atmosphere of a Notre Dame football weekend, I was hooked for life. Every square inch of the stadium is oozing with tradition and passion. The students stand and cheer for the entire game. (One entertaining sight is the attempts to sit down during halftime.) The fight song is one of the most famous pieces of music ever written, and the team has talent to match. Charlie Weis, having had a few years to figure things out, now has an offense capable of executing the plays in his massive playbook, and the defense has demonstrated a bend-but-don’t-break philosophy that should serve it well. The Hawaii Bowl victory over Hawaii on Christmas Eve (a road game masquerading as a bowl game) showed that the Fighting Irish won’t be intimidated by anyone. Notre Dame Stadium should be overflowing with fans once again this fall as the Fighting Irish “shake down the thunder from the sky.”
