The Magic of Craigslist

October 20th, 2009 by admin Leave a reply »

Last weekend, I discovered the magic of Craigslist. The magic, the possibility, the everything, lies in the ‘Free’ section where every average American who so desires can give away free materials to there fellow citizen. Until this weekend, I had no idea that such an opportunity exists. I saw refrigerators, microwaves, scrap metal, and the all important category of books. Books excite me; the possibilities within them excite me. And last weekend a lady was giving away 20 boxes of them. I drove 30 minutes to a small town on the edge of other small towns; this place was country. The lady lived in a house far off the beaten track…in fact, off paved roads altogether. She was kind and explained that she had built her collection over two decades and simply didn’t have any room for them. Therein was the opportunity. I relieved her of her books and, heading back to my apartment loaded down with 20 boxes of new books, I smiled at a newfound opportunity and the generosity of others.
